Enviropreneurs - A model to accelerate implemention of Green Chemistry
Mr. Nitesh Mehta
Green chemistry addresses the need to produce the goods and services, on which society depends, in a more environmentally benign manner. The focus of green chemistry is on pollution prevention, rather than treatment and disposal of hazardous waste after it has been generated.
The presentation introduces the concept of Enviropreneur as a possible model to accelerate the implementation of Green Chemistry at ground level & contribute towards sustainability of the planet. The model involves creating innovations around key pollution challenges being faced by the industry, customize those innovations as a solution & offer it to the Industry.
The presentation shares Newreka’s experience of working through this model, some successful case studies of implementing Green Chemistry at commercial scale to reduce E-Factor (kgs effluent generated per kg of product produced) in the pharmaceutical & fine chemicals industry and the impact it has created on the economics & environment.
The presentation emphasizes on the significance of bridging the gap between various stakeholders, discusses the challenges & limitations we have, as a country, to implement this model.
